The most singularly consoling doctrine in all of religion is the Christian belief that "Christ descended into hell." (-Ronald Rolheiser)

That means that no matter how bad life is, or no matter how sinful or off course we are, Jesus is right there with us. When the disciples were huddled in fear after our Lord was Crucified, He came to them… “Jesus entered through the locked doors.” He stood right there in their midst and spoke the words “Peace be with you.”

One of the ways that the Lord does this today is through counseling. Is there any part of you that is trapped or stuck? A Catholic or faith based counselor can help you to open up and allow Jesus into your heart. Maybe you notice someone you love who is struggling with “issues”, anxiety, depression, anger, loss of a loved one, PTSD, mid-life crisis, aging, alcoholism, drug addiction, marriage trouble, eating disorders, gambling, sexual abuse or addiction, loneliness or isolation. In all of these forms of hell Jesus descends. You do not have to go through it alone.

If you would like Christ to descend into your own personal “hell” I invite you to encounter him in the Sacraments. Just ask and myself or your parish priest and would be glad to give you Anointing of the Sick, hear your Confession, and most importantly join with you at the Eucharist.

You don’t have to walk the journey alone,

Fr. Michael
